Living an healthy lifestyle is the most cliched topic for all families over the years. If coconut oil to your hair or a ragi ball to your stomach is meant to keep you healthy, it is the wisdom from our grandmothers. If a peg can keep you warm and healthy during the cold winters, the grandpas up for the wisdom mike.

Health and being healthy has been on a constant roll for over the years, through the generations where our parents thought exercise will reach the necessary health criteria. The definition chameleoned when our seniors hit the gyms or the posh lady next door chose water aerobics in the pool.

But have you known a secret, of the  people who cook in the house have a power to save you. They are the guardians of your health. If they mess up on one single thing. From the vegetables that is to be washed  to the oil used that controls the cholesterol in your body. The family suffers. The ladies in the house hold up that responsibility in most Indian families.

And we all stand as an yield of the years experiment on us. The food we eat to the computer games that we choose to live in. Everything has overcome a massive change over the years.

Today, the world hasn’t remained the same and so has the beliefs or the practices carried like a mane has been so.

The dominos and burritos took over the ragiballs. The yearlong parties took over the winter pegs. The automatic vibrating machines took over the exercises. Oh right, the facebook scrolling became the new thumb trend for exercise. Phew, but we are still sane to get back to reality.

It’s all about balance.

I have a regime of my own. In a busy schedule that my day is packed with. I still find time. Defining an healthy lifestyle cannot be generalized and for me, staying fit and healthy is about balance.

A good night’s sleep and a morning walk, sometimes replaced with yogasanas for the flexibility starts my day. It is then progressed with a glass of warm milk, stealing the wits of my grandma, using a pinch of turmeric and a bit of crushed peppers during winter.

A daily routine that doesn’t glue me to the incessant calls or the frantic deadlines is something I dream of for my family memebers. To have something that can make you work without being worked up, a job that you like. Or you tend to like the job you already have, period.

You need a healthy heart and a fit body. Walk around often when you have to sit for longer times. Include raw vegetables to a quarter of the breakfast. It has been a blessing to the family. Yes, I will opt for junk foods, once in a fortnight maybe. But the veggies and greens with broccoli and eggs will be a part of the healthy diet. Not every day will be only noodles and omelets. But of the rich culture my ancestors have passed on. With a snack every day, sometimes with green tea or few more times with French fries and deep fried treat to our palates. With the right cooking oil and perfect tissue base, we eat to our heart’s content.

Then the day vapourises with laughter and merry with family and friends. A day with learning one new thing at a time. A day with some time for yourself. Maybe I will sing with my coarse voice or read a book in the shower. Or follow my passion with a bit of writing compensating with a bit of gardening.

That, my friend is a day well spent. That is a day well maintained and being mentally and physically healthy. It is all about balance. You are going to change tracks, we are all going to mess it up but we will find our balance, through and through. Balance has it all.

And finally meet one person after retiring for the day who can take all my craziest ideas and laugh at my serious decisions and put me to a sound sleep as I listen to his healthy heartbeat.

I have a last thought before falling to a deep sleep. It is about the guardians of your health. When Good brands promise you of health, accept it, trust it and use it. Because they hold the same responsibility as the person who cooks the daily food with it.

After-all, if you are healthy, so will your family be. If you are happy, so will your family be. So don’t forget to take care of yourself.

Find a new way to kick stress to the curb with easy, targeted muscle relaxing!

Stressed out? Try a body scan meditation! This simple exercise — used in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and in the practice of yoga nidra — can help calm your overactive mind, releasing tension and helping you unwind at the end of a hectic day.

Unlike other forms of meditation which require you to sit upright and maintain a certain posture, the deeply relaxing body scan meditation can be done lying down on a comfortable surface, either a mat on the floor or a bed.

Here’s how to get started:

1. Choose a quiet location. Turn off all music and electronic distractions.

2. Wearing loose, comfortable clothing, lie on your back on a mat on the floor or on a bed. Keep arms relaxed at your sides with your palms facing upward.

3. Before you begin, set an intention and state it to yourself in the present moment. For example, “I am relaxed and will sleep soundly” or “I am at ease and free from stress.”

4. Begin by noticing where your body makes contact with the floor or the bed. Notice your whole body from the inside out. Is there any tingling, soreness or tension? Don’t worry if you don’t feel anything in particular — there is no right or wrong way to feel. You’re not trying to change anything, just checking in with your body and seeing what is going on right now.

5. Now focus all your attention on your large left toe, then bring your awareness to the next toe and the next, until you reach your pinkie toe. Move onto the top of your foot, then your left ankle, shin, calf, knee and thigh. Repeat the same process on your right side.

6. Next, hold your left foot in awareness (by lightly contracting your muscles), then your lower left leg, then your entire left leg in awareness. Do the exact same thing with your right side.

7. Continue up the body in this manner, mentally “scanning” each individual body part and then each body section until you reach the top of your head. Put it all together by holding your lower body in awareness and then your upper body. Finally, hold your whole body in awareness. By this point you should be totally relaxed.


This meditation can be as brief as a few minutes or as long as a half hour — it’s your choice. Take as long as you want on each body part. The more detailed you are in scanning your body, the more relaxed you will be by the end.
Consider doing this meditation with a loved one, taking turns giving instructions while the other relaxes.
Try a short version of this meditation on your kids. Little ones will enjoy it before bedtime.

So this was it, I did try , leaving my limbs at ease, focusing my complete senses to the connection of the flow of my blood streams, relaxing each muscle, ordering the mind to de-stress the muscles and finally there were no creases on my forehead, I was calm, the blood flow was normal and I had a peaceful expression.So do check out reward me site for more tips on health, fitness and beauty.

Grab these ingredients
• Mangoes frozen and diced- 2 ½ cups
• Fat free vanilla Yogurt- ¾ cup
• Honey- ¼ cup
• Lime rind (grated) – ½ tsp
• Ripe kiwi fruit peeled and quartered) – 3
• Baby spinach (packed) – ½ cup
• Bottled green tea – 2 tbsp
• Water- 2tbsp
• Ice cubes- 2 cups
How to get this smoothie done:
Add in the mangoes,1/2 cup of yogurt,water,lime rind,2 tbsp of honey into the blender and process it until you get the smooth texture and stir occasionally.
Pour the mixture into 4 different glasses and then it goes into the freezer.
Back to the blender which is rinsed, add in ¼ (remaining) cup yogurt,2tbsp of honey,kiwi fruit,baby spinach,green tea ,water and those ice cubes. blend it again until you that smooth thick texture.
Now very skilfully take the spoonfuls of the kiwi mixture and lace it on the mango mixture
Present and serve
For the topping, so with the elegant sliced kiwi fruit and stir the combinational drink for flavor

3.Spritzer with green tea and cranberry

My Humble Hug

The morning newspaper carried the news of the specialty of the day, it was father’s day, it was as normal as any other day for me, usually the days associated with father’s were less known and less spoken off and also because the majority of the male species are not fond of cake cuts, happy social gatherings or party games and my father falls into this vast group though I agree there exists some renegades whom I know of and greatly fond of.

When the prompt came in to write a post for my father, I twitched and turned, I had never written anything for him until I changed this decision when I stumbled on to an old diary dating back to late nineties while searching for some old encyclopaedia from the attic. The diary belonged to my father when he was in late twenties, it was not a journal but his evening college notes that he was pursuing after marriage and with a day job in hand.

Somewhere in the middle of the pages was a note that was tucked and my mom had treasured that verse of his where he had casually written about me when I was born later that year 1992, the four line was for me, about me in kannada , my mother tongue.

He had visualized me growing up with long silky hairs, light foot and beautiful smile, it was just four lines that ended with he wishes to see me smile always, I was happy and over-whelmed, I had seen it a couple of times but never had considered his feelings he must have gone through then, but I never saw him writing again!

Now he is not much into writing or soulful talks, but he does chatter a lot but no serious talks, he binds his inner self well and talks about mundane things with me…But dad I would to understand your hidden soul and know you but I understand you amidst my silent fights!

My first admirer, you were

Made from a sprinkle of anger

Lots of love and a dash of discipline

I know you smiled a lot when I came in

As a staunch protector you stand..for me.


The long road trips we took

The unrecognizable hotels we dined

This is the very first time I’m penning down something for my father, though the thought crossed my mind a couple of times, I simply slided it away waiting for the right time and heart. I had even wished him on Father’s Day, it was just an obligation towards the day celebrated all across the world contrary to the pompous festive mood with greeting cards and gifts for mom on Mother’s day.

Being the first born and a daughter, I was pampered all my childhood and as I grew up I tended to becoming closer to my mother and Dad was for movies and road-trips and less of soulful talks, the reticent behaviour shone brightly in our relation and there are times we are not in terms with each other along with low arguments and days of silence on the context but both of us has this gene of not going back on the topic and nagging about the same.

So this Father’s Day , Dad, I would not gift you anything exceptional but reminisce the gifts you gave me and I seemed to have silently pushed under my conscious


Yes dad, though I would have made fun of you a zillion times for your peculiar way of resurrecting a lost moment and redefining it again for better results, I do it too. All those dramatic portrayal of the myriad of emotions in front of the mirror and then soothing down to a better conclusion! I have it in my genes, from you!


I meant it in a good way daddy, even i forget the statistics of the money spent and come home with a lost look with the conundrum hanging in the air of the missing crispy notes, at least you have mom who helps you with it, but I will be at the other end of her scolding where she tells me that I’m exactly like you in matters like these, there is a hidden smile in my contempt to disagree, but I still love the way we both never create a scene for every it’s good to be like you.


Though it was mom you instilled the importance of daily exercise and yoga, it was you who introduced us to the fun part of the stretches, those hip shakes and leg kicks were my favorite daddy and as always I love to put you behind in the who-stands-the-most in Vrukshasana contest.


Every time a movie got released around the corner, with graceful songs and life-impacting story lines , you took me there. I always wondered as to why you always watched a new movie alone and then take us, it was for us to view better movies and grow up in a good environment, somewhere along the road , these moulded my character, I’m thankful for helping me grow up with rectitude.


I blame you for this, yup though it is not something I’m very proud of, I still love the way how you beat it with a early morning drink of warm water with a pod of garlic followed by reading the newspaper in vajrasana( a yoga posture), the doughty mindset I managed to follow and beat the devil at its heart

I have never thanked you for anything dad and I don’t think so i ever will, my hands are tied with the we are and how our bond works, we just don’t tell things such as these aloud hence I’m writing it down, someday I’ll show this to you and you’ll definitely smile..

With lots of love and a sarcastic smile for my attempt I thank you for the hidden chocolates, for the never raised hand of yours to hit m, for the road-trips and for passing on the wanderlust to me, there are many more but I better stop, I have taken after you DAD and I’m proud of it though I’ll never let you know;)But I’ll hug you sure for it as this is the best way to know how special you are, hope you would notice:)
